On behalf of the Local Preparatory Committee, I have the pleasure of inviting you to the XVIII World Congress of the International Federation of Translators (FIT), to be hosted by Translators Association of China in Shanghai, China from 4 to 7 August 2008.
The FIT World Congress, which has been held every three years since 1953, is one of the most prestigious and influential international gatherings in the global translation community. It traditionally attracts 600-700 translators, interpreters, linguists, terminologists and educators as well as leading players in the industry from around the world to engage in professional development, global networking and business pursuits.
In August 2008, the FIT World Congress will be held for the first time in Asia. Translators Association of China, the only national association in the field of translation in China representing hundreds of thousands of translators and interpreters, is honored to be the host of the XVIII FIT World Congress. The Congress program will focus on the theme of “Translation and Cultural Diversity”.
The Congress will be staged at the Shanghai International Convention Center, a top-notch five-star hotel just next to the landmark of Shanghai – the Oriental Pearl TV Tower on the bank of the beautiful Huangpu River!
Apart from rich professional programs, you will be able to enjoy the great Chinese civilization through colorful social and cultural events as well as tours! The Beijing Olympic Games, too, start only one day later – August 8, 2008!
